Color Figures in the Print Journal Color illustrations in print should be used only in cases where there is a clear need. The additional costs for printing illustrations in color must be borne in full by the respective authors and their institutions, and must be paid before an accepted article is sent for production. Authors are reminded that Color Figures Online Only is a service provided in APS journals without charge to authors. For information about this service, see http://forms.aps.org/author/color_online_memo.pdf. Authors desiring color in print, and willing and able to pay the associated charges, should indicate their request, preferably upon submission, and indicate which figures are intended for color in print. If your paper is accepted for publication and color in print has been requested, an invoice will be sent to the corresponding author within a few days of acceptance. Full payment will be required before the article is sent to production. If a response to the invoice is not received within 21 working days, the article will be sent to production with the figures designated as color online only, provided those figures have been properly prepared as individual PostScript or EPS files (color online only results in no charges to the author). The charge is US$800 for a single color figure in print and $425 for each additional color figure in the print version of the article. Color reprints will be charged at the rate of $40 per color page per 50 reprints, in addition to the regular reprint rates. The regular reprint rates are available at http://forms.aps.org/author/reprintprices.pdf. Reprint and publication charges (if applicable) will be invoiced separately from the color-in-print charges, after publication of the article.
